Salut et bienvenue mes chers lecteurs! Today is my final blogpost for the year of 2017. Like the previous years, I always listed things I am grateful for this year. It has always been a good thing to list down your blessings. Also, I am writing this from Trussville, Alabama. This is my first time to celebrate New Year outside the country (I suppose that is my first thing to be thankful for). 🙌🏼😁
Let us get on with this list:
1. Final year in school
Yes, this year is my final year in Theology. Three years in Bible school has not only gain me wonderful experiences but good lifetime friends as well. I am truly grateful for my dad in pushing me to enroll and learn.
2. USA trip (Summer, Christmas & New Year)
Spending my first summer, Christmas and New Year in the US of A is a truly one of a kind experience. I get to see my aunt and her family after 5 years and so did my grandparents. We went to tourist sites and did all sorts of fun things.
Meeting new people and getting to form a bond with them is one of the greatest things about friendships. Some are meant to last, some come and some go. But amidst this, we enjoy the company of others whether they leave us or be with us. I personally and always say that I cherish friendships. I always strive to make maintain my friendship with other people. But of course not all are a happy ending. Still, this year has been good and has been filled with new friends that I hope would last me a lifetime.
Most of all these things, God. For all the blessings bestowed to all of us and how He has been faithful to me despite all my failures and mistakes.
2017 is definitely a colorful one. One that I will never forget. So many forged friendships happened and memorable events. Praying that 2018 will be a great year for us all.
Hello there! Quick question, who here has read my blogpost last 2016? The Fitness Goals??? Hahaha. I know, I know I haven’t been faithful on that year and just after a week or so I lapsed. Anyhoots, it is always good to have a partner in your fitness journey to be inspired and motivated to push your limits. I guess, I have my cousin and a dear friend who joined me with challenge to thank for. Hehehe.
So, I am writing my first weekly challenge to take off sweets and rice on my diet. I would substitute my rice to some sweet potatoes or “saba bananas” or cardava bananas. But if there is no available substitute for rice, then eating the viand will do good. Tomorrow is the start of the first week and I will post weekly photos my meals as a proof that I didn’t cheat.
A side note: I will not starve myself on this challenge but will still enjoy a little bit of this and that. This is up until I get used to the situation. You should know that in a Filipino diet, rice is a staple. So this is truly a challenge for me, my cousin and my friend. I hope to make it this week and see you next Saturday!
It is going to be 2017 in a few minutes. But before the clock strikes 12 midnight, I’d like to list down 8 things I am grateful this year.
Let us start with:
God For all He has done this year. From His protection, faithfulness, guidance, forgiveness, and wisdom of which I know I am not completely worthy of. He sustained me throughout school, on our trips and even in my blogging life. It is all of Him that this year I have something to be thankful for.
Family If there is one thing I learned this year is that your family will always be there for you. Your friends might forsake you and people might not believe you but family is always there. Of course, second to God alone, but I am thankful for my family this year for sticking out with me. Thick or thin we go together and it is all by God’s grace. Also, this year was my parent’s 25th anniversary!
Friends Friends are next to your family. They are not related to you, but sometimes the bond goes deeper. I am thankful for friends who stood with me and friends who understood me. Friends who despite all, are still here and would truly care. I am thankful to have such good friends, who are true to you.
Church There were a lot of activities done in church this year. New conferences, new friends and most of all the spiritual lessons you learn from it. I am thankful that I am part of Bethany and that Bethany stands with the Bible and its truths.
School I am now on my second year and this year has got me stressed out! Haha. Stressed from assignments and the exams. May not sound good but I am thankful, because I am learning a lot this year. Learning about our faith and of the practical life.
Travels Despite having only visited three countries this year, I am grateful because one of those countries is Israel! Yes, the Holy Land, God’s chosen nation and the Bible land. I am blessed to have stepped foot here. Aside from Israel, the Lord blessed us the chance to visit Hong Kong. A dream come true, for my late 18th birthday! Haha. Then just last December 19 is South Korea, this time with my grandparents. Another dream come true from a Korean TV series addict. Haha
New Phone When my Samsung Note 3 Neo broke down, I am extremely sad. But, God used my dear dad and mom who surprised me with an iPhone SE! Heehee, I am an Apple user now. Haha. This device is very helpful in my blogging and vlogging purposes as well.
Love I am thankful that God gave me someone or a special someone. Heehee. Yes, my boyfriend of one year, for being the understanding and sweet guy that he is. He is such a good guy who supported my schooling, work and blogging life. This is our first year and I am quite excited for the years to come as well.
I just want to say how happy am I for reaching the 2nd anniversary of my blog. 🎉🎊🎉🎊 Despite a hectic school year and some internet disruptions. I am really happy to be able to post at least once in a month. If you have read my previous posts, you are aware that I am still clearing up my blog’s space. I am also on the process of upgrading my blog. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
But since I am still on student mode, I would need to save for it and work for it too. As of the moment, I have found a solution to clear up my space. So far, that solution kind of saved my life in blogging! 😄 I am also planning to do a lot for my blog’s further improvement. 😝
But before all those big plans come to life. Let me first thank you for being here and reading this post. I am thankful for your every like, comment, follow, email subscription and such. They mean a lot for a blogger like me. Especially, when blogging is only a hobby of mine.
I know there are still a lot of things to learn in the world of blogging. But then I love to write & writing has always been my dream. I am not a great writer though. I don’t have that much confidence in my writing. This is why I blog, a platform to practice my writing and eventually improve.
Hopefully, even if it is still a hobby of mine, I would be able to attract a large audience. Write lots of blog posts or maybe, just maybe publish book of my own. Another person I would like to thank, is the Lord Almighty. For all the blessings & experiences that He allows me to encounter.
These experiences are my source for blogging. The recipes, travels & ideas, are all given by Him. So, before I end this melodramatic blog post, *tissues please* thank you sooo much! Let us hope in the next bloggerversaries to come I might have something to give away. 🙌🏼👍🏼
*Disclaimer: This post is not to malign or uplift any brand name written below. This post is written based on my experience and how I only perceive the matter.*
I have always been hooked to technology and social media. As bad as it may sound, it is true. I always find myself wasting hours away while scrolling on Facebook, watching stories on Instagram, or tweeting on Twitter and pinning on my Pinterest boards. It is very entertaining though. In a way that it occupies so much of my life. Something like those memes you see where you get so glued in your phone and lose the real touch around you. Sadly true. 😞 😞 😞
I am pretty sure that you are too or at least some of you are struggling or may not notice of this situation in your lives. But something happened just in the past few weeks that really forced me into a technology and social media detox. A week after our semestral break from school my Samsung (Note 3 Neo) suddenly couldn’t read my sim cards. I tried restarting it, shutting it down, and even searched what were the possible causes. Some said the slots might be dirty and needed cleaning. Others pointed out software malfunction. 😳 😳 😳
I was in a frantic panic mode when I suddenly realized that I might have the same situation as my boyfriend’s phone. It was still usable when it is connected to wifi. Which means, it’ll work like a tablet. I thought it was fine since I do own a pocket wifi and so I would just need an ordinary phone to use for calling and texting.
The situation didn’t bother me that much as I have still continuous access to tech and social media. Although, it was irritating to carry around several devices and juggling around three is nasty! This is why I owned a dual sim phone to avoid carrying two. I could only imagine the vloggers and how they handle such tech, kudos to them!
Despite that, I was still okay. When all of a sudden in just a few days after my phone’s keyboard suddenly didn’t work and if it did, it took 5 minutes per letter as I type to show on screen. 😖 😖 😖 I felt hopeless on it and really pissed too. I clung onto my spare phone instead and plainly used texting and calling. For social media I only used the laptop.
Since I couldn’t bring the laptop around all the time. I was forced to get out of the house without my Samsung. This means no FB, IG, music, Google. Nothing of those. Even in my work at home I just ended doodling words and playing word games on my free time. My only touch to social media was after work. When I can finally use the laptop, which rarely happened as my brother uses it as well for school.😩 😩 😩
Then just last Thursday night. After having days of detox, my parents surprised me of a choice to buy a new phone. I was thinking Android, they were thinking IOS. I was surprised to hear from Dad that we are going to buy the iPhone SE. From my previous experiences, I really think Android is more user friendly than Apple. Although we do have an iPad and Macbook, my phone is still on the Android side. ALL THE TIME.
So when we bought it. I said “we” cause my dad didn’t paid for it all, I had to pitch in and so did mum. I really felt blessed, because I was hoping to buy a new phone on my own next year and an Android too. I also thought of availing a plan and pay for it monthly. Then this happened, my inner child was jumping and crying for joy. 😳 😁 😂
We bought the 64GB iPhone SE cause the 6 and 6Plus were too big for me. I have medium to tiny hands and based on my experience, I have a habit of dropping phones. 😵 😵 😵 So going small was okay. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
But even with the new phone. The biggest lesson I learned is to prioritize. Don’t let technology and social media dictate you. Have a detox every once in a while and learn to balance. Most of all, always put God first. Merci beaucoup et a bientôt!
Hello there! To my dear readers, I would like to immediately address my blog’s apparent situation. You see, I have only subscribed my blog here on WordPress for the free package. But since the free package has a limited space of 3GB for the use of media and such, I have ran out of it.
For now my current solution is minimize the use of pictures and delete repeated ones. Also, another dire solution I did was to delete my previous blogs. Which is heartbreaking to do. 😭😭😭 The blog entries I have deleted were (in random order):
Ellie Kim. Womanhood. Art Sleep-Deprived. Stressed Chamber Choir Competition Derry + EnEn Noël Summer of 2000
But I have also saved them in Word document format so I can reupload them next time around. For now, I will be saving around 5,000PHP to avail the 10gb space and probably own my domain as well. Fret not, for I will be posting on my blog but with fewer or no pictures involved.
In just a few minutes it’ll be a new year and the skies would soon be filled with wondrous fireworks, loud singing of Auld Lang Syne and thousands of greetings around the world of a Happy New Year!
But before 2015 ends, I just want to list down the things I am thankful for. This would be a random list of what happened this year. ^_^
Our Asian Trip: It would probably be the highlight of my 2015. Or should I say, it is the highlight of my 2015. Being able to push through our 15 day long family trip to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore is really a life-changing event. Finally understanding the different cultures getting to taste their food was truly a one of a kind experience. I could say that it wouldn’t definitely be our last, in fact there are plans laid out for this coming year. Heehee *crossing fingers*. You may view more about our Asian Trip under my Travel section or under the tag LesVoyagesdesNica.
My Blog: Recently, I just celebrated my blog’s first anniversary (December 9), which is a milestone for a newbie blogger like me. Since my blogging is basically a hobby, I am quite proud to have lasted with it in a year. Even if I am not posting quite often, still you guys are here. So thank you to you all too!
Back to school: Yes, you read it right. I am indeed back to school. But it isn’t your typical school. It’s actually a Bible school and I am taking up Theology, which is probably the reason why I haven’t been posting much. Lelz. But anyhoots, I am enjoying school despite the tons of assignment given to us this Holiday season..ugh! Haha.
New Friends: Even though I am the oldest female in class and probably on most males as well. Thanks for treating me like an older sister and being such good friends. I know sometimes I may sound like any big sister would (haha, not stereotyping okay??) still, I am thankful for the friendship. Hoping to bond more with all of you and make good memories for the next 2 years. Ooooh!
Banana Republic (Not the clothing brand, guys): It is a name we gave our group or in Filipino term “barkada”. They are my college friends whom I treat like my literal siblings. I love them soo much and I am always thankful of meeting such good people. If you are wondering why would we name ourselves bananas, it came from our Nutrition Class during College. Anyhoots, each of us has a specific type of banana that represents us. May sound lame, but it is what it is. 🙂
Local Family Trips: Aside from the Asian Trip, my family and I also took time to explore our country. Recently, we have been to Puerto Galera and The Hundred Islands, in case you want to visit the Philippines don’t hesitate to visit those beautiful places. Read more on my Travel section.
Meeting with good Old Friends: It took us six years and a few months before our planned meet-ups came to happen. Yes, my best friend since pre-school days (1998)! After high school we parted ways in our college courses but not our hearts and thank goodness for technology! It made our communications easier indeed. We are actually now planning to meet up every after 2 months. Hopefully this will come to pass!
Le Boyfriend: Yep, you all read it right. In Filipino culture to have a boyfriend would require months, at times a year and to others weeks would suffice, of courting. When the girl says yes, that day would be their anniversary day. That magic happened last June 6 of 2015. ^_^ Looking forward for our first year this coming 2016. ❤ ❤ ❤
Family: Because this year would not be complete without our families. I would not consider our family rich or what, but I would say that we are blessed. Blessed to have what we need and want, blessed that we are indeed a happy family.
Why so serious Dad?

GOD: For He is the source of all this blessings and the source of another set of blessings this coming 2016. He deserves all the glory and praise for all that He has done!
There are still a lot to be thankful for this 2015 but this are my main 10 for this year. Never forget to be thankful too for everything you have and will have on the coming year! BTW I just received an email of my blog’s progress from WordPress. Ooooooh, exciting! 😛 Click it down below.
HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY to my blog! I am way too excited to celebrate this milestone in my blogging passion. I can’t help but congratulate myself in some way that I was able to keep this up for ONE YEAR. Despite the times, where my posts were scarcely seen and only a few readers notice it. It is indeed something to be happy and thankful for. So let me thank the following for pushing me to continue my blog, and just ENJOY writing!
First of all, to God, for without His guidance and blessings, I wouldn’t be able to come up with ideas in improving my blog. It is with His blessings that this year of 2015 is colorful enough to be blogged. The travels, recipes I learned, books I read are all by Him. You may say, “But you did that all?” Still without His guidance and wisdom, I wouldn’t be able to push through my blog, knowing how I love to procrastinate. Lelz.
Second, to my Parents. My number one supporters, who encouraged me with my writing. Even if it only was a hobby, still they pushed me. Thanks Mum and Dad, for believing that I can do this, and now I am celebrating its first year.
Third, to my friends and boyfriend. Chen, for encouraging me to start up this blog as a platform to improve my writing skills and as a virtual diary of my life too (Check out her blog on chenesteves.wordpress.com). Acque, for being my first proof reader, and checking whether my content are interesting or not. Sunny, my boyfriend who cheered me on and is quite proud of my accomplishments, even if they might be nonsense to some.
Fourth, is to YOU. Yes, I am talking to you or rather writing to you. Thank you for reading my blogs. Even if its plain and some content might not seem interesting for some. Still thank you, your views, likes and comments mean a lot to someone like me. I am glad that in some way I can help through my experiences in life or at least relate with you. So really, thank you and I hope to see you till my 2nd and more anniversaries to come. Who knows? I just might give my first giveaway by then. Heehee.
For now, all I could do is just to thank you all and pray that in the coming years, NicaCanWrite might just bloom into something big. After all, dreams are just the beginning of an adventure. 🙂
Just last November 5, I received a surprise on my email box. It was from a company based in the United States that has a passion to influence women and empower them in the work field. Being a woman myself, and someone who believes that women can truly make a difference. I did not hesitate to work with them in celebrating the International Day of the Girl. So, I would liked to say thank you to Teza Technologies’ Director of Special Projects’ Ms. Molly Bukowski for considering me and my blog in this quest.
To give you a head start on what Teza’s quest is all about, here is CEO Misha Malyshev statement for us girls,
International Day of the Girl is a holiday committed to celebrating the successes and opportunities available to girls all over the world. Teza Technologies CEO Dr. Misha Malyshev believes that everyday should be the Day of the Girl in order to celebrate their successes in life. These opportunities pertain to everything in life, but Teza Technologies wants to celebrate the women in science, technology, engineering, and math.
In the 21st century, women in the work field is a common scene. In fact, over 73 million of women are in the workforce and that takes 47% (Source: http://dpeaflcio.org/). However, there is probably one specific workplace where women are, let’s say “lacking” or are in smaller numbers. That specified workplace are those related to STEM. So what is STEM? It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM jobs are actually crucial for the enhancement and innovation of a country. STEM is widely related to engineering, research, business, health, information technology, software developments, and the list goes on (Source: http://www.forbes.com/). Research tells us that only 24% of women are employed in STEM related jobs (Source: http://www.esa.doc.gov/) and that 57% of those said that they have not consider having a career related to STEM.
Despite the fact that STEM jobs earn more, and the higher levels of education, the wage gap crises still happens between opposite genders. Why? It is because of the thinking of what women can’t and can do. Thankfully, that stereotype is slowly being cast aside with people who believe in the capability of women and their power to influence.
“One of the things that I really strongly believe in is that we need to have more girls interested in math, science, and engineering. We’ve got half the population that is way underrepresented in those fields and that means that we’ve got a whole bunch of talent…not being encouraged the way they need to.”
— President Barack Obama, February 2013 (Source: https://www.whitehouse.gov)
And like the US President, the Teza Technologies feels the same. Here is an exclusive graphic they made for the us women.
For us women, let us show our capabilities and not be limited to what people say. Let us consider our strengths and use our weaknesses as stepping stones to build a brighter future. For men, don’t think that you are left alone in this quest of equality in the workplace. Together, both can achieve greater heights.
Merci beaucoup et á bientôt!
